At Sallynoggin College of Further Education, near Dun Laoghaire in Dublin, we offer a Primary and Post Primary Teaching Preparation course to enable students to progress to degree programmes in:

  • Primary School Teaching – For learners who have achieved the minimum Leaving Certificate points and entry requirements for primary school teaching, but who did not achieve a H4 in Higher Level Irish. The learner will complete Leaving Certificate Higher Level Irish and will achieve the QQI Award in Childhood Education and Training 5M3635.
  • Post Primary School Teaching Or
  • Direct employment opportunities within the Early Childhood Education and Training sector (see employment and career opportunities)

Learners who successfully complete a QQI Level 5 Certificate may be able to use their results to progress to related Level 7 and Level 8 Degree Programmes in Irish Universities and Institutes of Technology. Work Experience

Learners will undertake organised work placements in Gaelscoil, Naíonraí, Primary and Post Primary Schools and/or in a variety of Tusla approved Childcare Services.

Educational Progression

Students may apply to the following courses where they have achieved the minimum Leaving Certificate points and entry requirements for primary school teaching in their Leaving Certificate exam.

Where students did not achieve a H4 in Honours Irish, they may complete this subject again at SCFE and where successfully achieved they may apply to the following courses;

Additional Routes to Primary Teaching using this QQI level 5 award in Education and Training (5M3635)

Where students have progressed and achieved their honours Bachelor Degree at level 8, they may then apply for a 2 year Professional Master of Education (Primary Teaching) programme. Students must meet the minimum entry requirements as determined by the individual colleges.
