YOUTH WORK

This new one year course is designed for those who would like to pursue a career working with young people and teenagers in community based settings.

Course Content Includes:

  • Psychology of Adolescence
  • Identity and Belonging
  • Sexual Health Issues
  • Relationships/relating with peers
  • Teamwork/leadership skills
  • Sport, recreation and outdoor pursuits
  • Communications
  • Work Experience
  • Service provision and legislation relevant to youth

INFORMATION

Course Features

  • Participants will be required to undertake work experience in a youth setting
  • Coursework will include an examination of particular issues for young people in modern Irish society such as family breakdown, addiction studies, and youth culture
  • Educational Field Trips
  • Guest lectures in specialist subjects

Career and Employment Opportunities
Direct employment in the Youth Worker sector Progression to Higher Education, such as Social and Community studies

Entry Requirements
Participants must have an interest in community based youth work Leaving certificate level or equivalent or relevant experience Mature students welcome Suitable candidates will be selected by interview

Certification
FETAC Level 5
Certificate in First Aid
